As part of our Meet Motel series, we catch up with Amy Stiff - Digital Designer & Email Marketer at Motel.
What's the best part about working for Motel?
I’ve worked at Motel for 2 years, and it’s flown by! I think the best part is being able to communicate the brand to a massive audience via the power of newsletters. I get to create fun and exciting graphics, use eye-catching colours and fun content to make sure you guys out there enjoy reading them.
And the worst?
The biscuit jar. It’s too hard to resist a chocolate digestive with a cup of tea!
Which Graphic Designers inspire you?
When it comes to typography I really like Jessica Hische, I love her style of new and old design fused together to create something really fresh. I’m a big fan of branding too; one design studio that has caught my eye recently is Ro and Co. When it comes to illustrations I have to shout out my boy Daddison for his fun and colourful drawings. I’m also really feeling Shaz Madani’s style of graphic design. Go check her out.
How would you describe your style?
Urban streetwear meets Joey Essex meets oversized everything.
What is your favourite Motel piece and why?
My all time favourite piece is the Pollyanna in Smoke print, I love the oversized style, the shape is a good mix of casual and smart, which is perfect to wear dressed up with dessert boots, or dressed down with my favourite pair of trainers.
What are you currently listening to?
As a DJ I am always listening to new music, and recently Drum & Bass has found its way back into my heart and ears. I can’t get enough of the brand new Nu:Logic album – What I’ve Always Waited For.
WHO IN FASHION WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO MEET OR WORK WITH?
I would love to work with Nike. I am huge trainer fan, and to be able to create even the most smallest of designs for Nike would be a dream come true! They could even pay me in trainers!
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR ANYONE WANTING TO WORK IN FASHION?
Be yourself - It’s cool to be different. Don’t take yourself too seriously, and prepare for lots of hard work, but the rewards will pile in.
